Open Question: How much do collection agency charge to recover deductible from at-fault party in car accident?
My car got rear-ended in Nov 09 by an uninsured motorist. Since I did not have uninsured motorist coverage, the insurance company proceeded by filing the accident under Collision. I got a letter from them now that in spite of repeated attempts to recover the money, the at-fault party did not cooperate. So they are handing it over to a collection agency to recover the deductible, but also noted that there may be a charge. Since they did not note what the fee percent would be, I wanted to know if anyone here could help me.

Also, the at-fault party seemed very cooperative and amicable in the beginning, wanting to settle properly. Should I try contacting him to see what could be causing the delay in the deductible recovery?

Thanks, this is my first accident, so have no clue on how the whole insurance thing goes.

Resolved Question: someone hit my car and then run away?
I don’t know who the person that hit my car was and I have no witnesses (Already asked neighbors and they say they didn’t hear, or see anything). I already filed a police report and got a report number that I don’t know what to do with. The car looked like it was hit very hard; back of it was knocked onto the sidewalk, I think the frame that holds the 2 back wheels together is probably bent because it was hitting the curb when the back of the car was pushed on to the sidewalk. The front left of the car is smashed along with the headlights and the tires got flattened. I have liability insurance from GEICO but I’m not liable because I didn’t cause the accident, someone else did… I live in California and I don’t want to pay in full for my car to get fixed because someone hit my parked car. I tried to drive it off the sidewalk but it won’t get out… My coverages are bodily injury liability, property damage liability and uninsured & under insured motorist but I heard that I would need collision in this situation… What should I do?
I also live in California

Resolved Question: Auto accident Insurance question?
I’ll try to make it short. My husband and I were in a car accident 3/17/2010. We were hit by someone with no insurance and no drivers license, who was also not the owner of the vehicle. Somehow this guy was given a ticket, but was not arrested (we live in Florida), he lost control in the Hwy hitting 3 cars (we were car #3). Because we’ve been trying to save money, we switched to a cheap insurance company, giving up Bodily Injury coverage and uninsured motorist coverage. Big mistake, we know that now. We weren’t hurt, so I’m not going to join the 1 million scammers out there, who file false injury claims. Our car, a 2007 Toyota Avalon, which we were very proud of, because we were able to pay it off within 3 yrs, and is technically one of the best cars we ever owned, had a little over $3000.00 worth of damages, our deductible is $500, so we are responsible to pay that portion, once all repairs are made. We have spoken to an attorney who said our best bet was small claims court. The problem with that, is that in order to file a small claim, you have to pay $400 + out of pocket, and we just don’t have that kind of money lying around. We’re sure that we would win the case, but if this people have no financial means, I would not get to see any of it, for who knows how long. What I need help with is writing a letter to the owner of the vehicle, asking to pay the deductible for my auto repairs. I don’t want to sound threatening or harsh, but I do want to get my point accross. I tried searching for sample letters and couldn’t find any. If you have any experience in this and could help me out, I would greatly appreciated.
Pedro 7 – Right about now, I wished I lived in Virginia. But yes Florida, or at least my county requires $400 just to file a claim!
