Open Question: Legal help, I need a carfax ASAP.?
I bought a used car Mother’s Day weekend. (Actually it was my Mother’s Day present from my husband). I added it to our insurance, and today I get a email from them saying it is being cancelled because the car has a salvage title. The title I have does not say salvage, but they have not had a new title issued since 2005. The seller told me that he had the car painted 3 years back, and there had been a dent in the quarter panel that he had fixed, but there were absolutely no major accidents. I called the insurance company, and they said that they were not allowed to disclose the carfax to me. It’s driving me crazy, and I really do not have the extra money to spend on a carfax. Please, if you are a dealer, or have a carfax account, I will paypal you $5 for your time, but I really need to see the report myself, or else the wondering will drive me crazy. Also, does any one know what the laws are as to disclosing that? I live in South Carolina. Thanks
The fact of not having the extra cash to spend on a carfax isn’t really a part of the question. I think if people are going to be negative, you should just keep your comments to yourself. You see, I just had this crazy thought that maybe there are still people out there who like to help others (even strangers) out when they need it. It’s pointless to pay $30 for one carfax on a car I’ve already purchased. I will still be stuck with the car, and out $30. So, if it’s that important, forget the carfax, just the legal advice will do fine, but please, only from someone who either knows what they are talking about, or has something to say of substantial meaning… To answer the questions though, yes, I think it is strange that the insurance company won’t tell me, or let me see what the carfax says. The reason why I think it might be on the carfax and not the title is, I just got the car, I have a temporary tag, the title has not yet been switched. I still have his title from 2005….
..I’m afraid that the accident happened since he’s had it, he paid to keep it when the insurance company totaled it, then, he had his friend who is a body repair man fix the car, and then he sold it. All the body lines match up okay, the car does not appear to be totaled, but even an accident that appeared to be minor could total the car. My problem is that he blatanly lied when asked about the history (If this is true) and covered it up intentionally. It’s a car that I had intended to keep for a long time as it is not the car that I will drive daily. I had a Cobra like this before, and it was sentimental, and I loved it. When I had kids, I needed an SUV that was much more practical. My husband knew how much it meant to me, and how much I missed it, so he found one much like the one I had before. I’m only upset because I feel like the guy thinks he got over on me, and also because my insurance just cancelled my whole policy, at 3 AM, and I’ve got to have transportation tomorrow.
Thanks for your time and input. I guess I will just have to try to go to bed, and look into it tomorrow. *Oh, and I’ve never lived anywhere but SC. My name is pronounced almost like sorry but sahr-a (If that makes any sense at all!) Most people think it’s just a different twist on Sarah. Thanks again.
Voting Question: Should I move back home to my parents to finish my degree- 27 yrs old?
Hi there. I am stuck in a jam and need some unbiased opinions. I am 27 yrs old. Have been in a long term bumpy relationship with the love of my life. I dropped out of college a few years ago when my parents moved out of state and I chose not to go with them. I wasted alot of time enjoying the newfound “freedom” of living on my own(with my sister), partying, and working a full time job as a recruiter. My sister recently moved back in with my parents after realizing she didn’t want to live check-to-check for the rest of her life. She is going back to college. My financial obligations have recently doubled and I had to take a part time job. The stress has led to me drinking and fighting with my boyfriend everyday. We recently broke up. I feel in a rut and my parents are pressuring me to move back with them and get my life straight. My heart tells me the best thing is to focus on my education since I have 2 years left. I only see 2 options at this point: a. move down to South Carolina with them, with the sole purpose to go back to school full time and finish my degree. Sacrifice my current financial status. b. stay here, get a smaller apt and work full time while going back part time.
I have a car payment, insurance, some credit card debt, and living expenses. I think if I move with parents, a part time job can cover my car and minimal cc bills. If I stay here, I may get back into the same routine and never finish…
I feel like I am making excuses to not leave so I can stay near my boyfriend. He has always put pressure on me to finish my degree because he has as well. In fact, I have even lied to him in the past about taking classes…. Now that we are broken up, I feel like maybe that might be the best thing. However, I know he would be really upset once he finds out I am moving. He doesn’t want me to go there, but wont help me financially…
What do you all think? THANKS
