Voting Question: Is it worth it to sue or should I just drop it?
Last Wednesday, January 6, 2010, I was was walking to my car after work. I opened my car door to discover that the driver side mirror had been knocked off and was hanging from my car. I returned to the building where I work to ask if anyone knew what happened or if they had seen anything during the day. My boss and his business partner came outside to look at the damage and began calling their field workers to see if anyone knew what happened. While on the phone, my boss found out that several of them were playing soccer in the parking lot and one of them accidentally kicked the ball into my car. Now knowing the source of what caused the damage, my boss promised me that he would take the repair costs out of their paycheck and write me a check. The next day, I went to get an estimate at a body shop where I have gone before and I trust. They estimated the repairs would cost $300 which is a great deal considering my mirror is electrical and heated. The estimate also includes parts, labor and paint. The day after receiving the estimate, I gave it to my boss at work. He looked at it and asked me. “What? Did you get an estimate to paint your whole car?”. I thought that was really harsh and unreasonable, but I told him that was an acceptable rate and I could have gone to a dealership instead or another extremely expensive place. Several hours later, he comes to me and says. “I think you need to take a half a day’s pay and get out of here.” I asked him why? And he said because we seem to have a difference of opinion. I asked if that was his way of firing me and he shrugged his shoulders and said, “Well…” I pack up my things and left. What do you think about this situation? Is this wrongful termination considering North Carolina is an ‘at-will’ state? I still haven’t received payment for my car either. Should I file a delayed police report and force his property insurance to pay for it since it happened on his property?
I actually was fired because the moment he told me to leave, he called his wife and asked if she could come in to cover on Monday. He didn’t have the guts to come right out and say it. I had been with his company for most 1 year and never had a problem until now. I never liked him as a person b/c he is such a jerk, but I always respected him as an employer. I would have never just got up and left him. I invested too much time and sweat in the job. But I appreciate all of you for your great answers. I think suing for $300 is just pointless and court costs would end up making it a lot more expensive than it’s worth. Plus he isn’t worth my time. Thank you!!
Oh and I failed to mention that I was the only girl who worked there. It was a landscaping company and I worked in the office. I think his reason for firing me is because he was offended that I would actually make his illegal immigrant field workers pay. He was very protective of them. And I’m not being racist, they really were illegal b/c he gave them cash instead of giving them a real paycheck. Also, everyone was more respected than I was at the company. There was a gentleman who used to screw up all the time and as a result, ended up losing a lot of the company’s money. But he was never fired b/c he and my boss were friends even though my boss bad mouthed him in front of me all the time. I’m not a feminist or a stupid drama queen. I’m just very hurt the way my whole situation played out. Any advice?
Resolved Question: How long do I have to claim insurance?
A friend of mine hit my car, he said he would pay for it out of pocket, i got estimates, he has made no attempt to pay me so far. How long do I have to contact his insurance or take legal action (I am in North Carolina)?

How long do I have to contact his insurance or take legal action (I am in North Carolina)? It has been a month, we emailed the first couple of weeks (does that agreement count as writing?) but hasn’t since then. I also have witnesses who saw him hit my car.

Resolved Question: Ask this question again with a little more detail.?
I went to rent a car after a wreck because my insurance company said that they would cover it. I went to rent the car and the rental company said I had to pay collision of $15 a day on the car. I told the rental agent that I was not going to pay that, even if my insurance wouldn’t pay it. The guy said that it was alright to take the car, that the insurance would probably cover it. I took the car and it turns out that the insurance doesn’t not cover it because North Carolina does not require them to. The rental company took my original deposit and then charged the rest to my card even though I did not authorize it and I originally told them I would not pay it and they said it was ok to take the car. Is that legal?
We had a verbal agreement that I would not pay the collision and he said ok.

Being arrested for driving while impaired (DUI/DWI) in North Carolina
can have a drastic impact on a person; driver’s license suspension, car
insurance increase, court ordered alcohol programs, stiff penalties and
large fines. Throughout North Carolina, including Gaston and
Mecklenburg Counties, a person arrested for a DUI/DWI who has a prior
conviction, will most likely face jail time if convicted. It is
important to know that there can be options to those who face this
possibility. I find people in this situation want to know the best case
scenario (a dismissal or a finding of not guilty) and the worse case
scenario (a conviction). Many clients will ask if they are convicted,
and they have a prior driving while impaired conviction, are they going
to Mecklenburg or Gaston County Jail?
As a special condition of probation, North Carolina General Statute
20-179 (k1) gives a judge the discretion to order that any term of
imprisonment (jail time) be served in an impatient f
