Voting Question: What is the safest / most reasonable way to rent a car in Mexico?
I’m traveling to Mexico in about a month and touring the Yucatan Peninsula. Because we’re going to be seeing some of the more remote sites, we decided that a rental car would be the best way of doing things. I’ve read a lot about how you have to purchase additional insurance in Mexico as well. Is it true that traditional US credit card insurance doesn’t apply? I’ve also heard much about tourists getting bribed by the police. Is this still an issue? Are there any recommended steps to take to avoid this treatment? Any recommended rental agencies?

Resolved Question: Am I right or wrong for doing this to him?
My fiance & I had our differences a while ago. He left saying I didn’t have our place perfectly clean & couldn’t cook Mexican food (he is Mexican). He said it wasn’t working out for him, only for me. Then he came back, talked to my family, said he loved me & would do anything to get me back. He was there all the time. I gave him another chance. He moved back in. We’re pregnant, I picked a house to buy (need more space and always dreamed of having my own house), I borrowed $3000 from my dad for down payment and got the house, I put my fiance on the title and we closed just days ago. I have a 5 yr old dog who’s been with my mom for the last 10 months because I couldn’t have her at my apt but I go visit her and take her of her. Right after we signed the papers, my fiance said: I didn’t tell you this before, but I don’t want the dog in the house. I answered: Sorry, but you knew I had a dog & I won’t give her away & won’t let my mom keep taking care of her. He said: If the dog moves in I won’t put a foot in the door. I said: Ok, do whatever you want. That same day he acted like a jerk with me & my family and left to go partying with his friends. I told him to not come back that night & to forget about me, he was being a jerk, immature and celebrating with his friends instead of cleaning the new house with me & celebrating. He also spent a bunch of money with the friends. I have been through this B/S/ before and ever since he found out I’m pregnant he’s changed, argues more with me, raises his voice at me all the time, makes fun of me when we’re arguing, etc. That same night he took his clothes from the apartment. After that night I told him to pay the lawyer and take himself off the papers of the house. He said he will do it and said he would buy a house of his own because he realized he has to do things for himself. Not only this, but I asked him to use his money to pay the down payment ( he had the $3000 in his account) and he said NO because he was going to do some business with his mom. I got upset because we’d still get the money back with the tax return but still decided to go ahead with the house and put him on the papers. Well, I found out he sent his dad $1,500 to Mexico 1 month ago and didn’t tell me anything, why didn’t he? He said because he knew with all the costs of the house and the new baby I would probably get upset with him, so he decided not to tell me & MY BROTHER told me that’s how I found out. I said he still lied to me and instead of telling his drunk dad he could only send him some money but not a whole month worth of support, he still sent the whole thing and told me NO with the money of the house. I told him he has his priorities messed up and I don’t want to be with him anymore. He told me he really wants to be with me and that I really have to think hard about what I’m doing because he wants to support me and for me to be happy at the new house. I said I didn’t need him to support me and I’d rather be alone and him not be with me. I told him he could rent a room at my new house, but we wouldn’t be together. He said we’re together at the new house, him on the papers or he buys his own house. I said BUY YOUR OWN HOUSE! THIS WAS MY EFFORT, none of what you’ve done is your effort. Oh yeah, he has a car that’s on my name and he still hasn’t put insurance on it.
Am I wrong or right for telling him all this? I just think things are getting worse instead of better and I’ve already been through a bad relationship with my first son’s dad, but we all believed this guy was really it, he is just so nice and helpful all the time, but it turned out like this…??? I am also thinking I don’t want to have babies from different dads. I am getting fixed and if I ever find the right man for me, we’ll have to adopt if he wants babies. I’m not messing up again.
