Resolved Question: Do out-of-country accidents show up on my driver’s abstract?
I live in Alberta, and while insured as an occasional driver on my parents’ policy, I got in a single car accident in Montana – I hit a patch of black ice on the highway, and slid into the retaining wall, totalling the car. The highway patrol who responded to the call issued a citation for ‘careless driving’, based on the assumption I was going too fast for conditions. We did make an insurance claim, and we were reimbursed for roughly the value of the car before the accident.

What I want to know is, will the citation the police issued in Montana show up on my Canadian driving record? Also, what impact might the claim my parents made after the accident have on my insurance premiums when I get my own car and separate insurance policy?

Resolved Question: How can i change my license plates to my new car?
I recently bought a car in wyoming. I gave them my sisters address because i thought id be moving there soon and i was in the process of getting a job there. However my license is from Montana and of course it has my address in montana. I got a wyoming title from the car dealer. Im not living in wyoming but in montana and decided i didnt rly wanna live there and the job didnt really work out. I tried to go get plates however they told me i need to go get a montana title for the car.

So i went to the dealer and he told me that i was lying and just trying to get out of paying taxes or something like that. I said i was mistaken and i told him my license was from montana and that i live here in montana. He didnt believe me and said that alot of people are trying to get out of paying wyoming taxes. So he said just pay the taxes and get your plates here then go to montana and get them there. I really dont want to get wyoming plates because im a resident of Montana and i could probably get fined or something. Even my insurance is registered in Montana.

Any advice would be helpful
In montana there is no taxes and the dealer is just assuming i do not want to pay wyoming taxes. I found out if i actualy gave them my montana address id actualy get a montana title and wouldnt have to pay wyoming taxes. I shouldnt have to pay taxes for wyoming anyway i dont live there. I just wasnt being smart in giving them a wyoming address. I had no idea id have to pay an enormous amount of taxes ($1500+).
update!

Hey thanks for taking the time to answer my question its been quite helpful!

Ive contacted the dmv and told them my situation. They told me that i just need to bring in my drivers license along with a statement from my landlord and any mail i get. As well as my College records. (to verify that i live in Montana) and they would change it for me.

Resolved Question: Feelings of inferiority?
I feel so inferior, compared to other High School Juniors. It seems expected at the age of 16 to have your license and get a car. Well at least in suburban Houston.

But I have neither. I do not have a car OR a license. I feel so inferior to all my friends that do. It feels like the great majority of my friends do. Especially the ones that are at the top of the pack at school.

My parents can’t afford it right now. We bought a stupid new house, and while still paying off for the new one, we still have to maintain the old one until somebody buys it. Which is like never.

Even if I do learn how to drive AND get a license, we’d still have to pay costly insurance. I don’t have a car, so a license is useless. My parent use their vehicles all the time, so no dice there.

I also live in this stupid new subdivision, that is far away from all my friends at high school, including the high school. So no rides either.

It’s ingrained in American culture that if you don’t drive by the age of 16, you’re nothing. For example:

1. My friend asked me if I got a new car for my birthday. A new car? As if I had an old one.
2. http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/30/ford-announces-self-parking-cars-future-16-year-olds-totally-ps/
3. A lot of people I knew last year got excited about their 16th birthday, particularly because they were going to get their license that day.
4. I once saw a Hannah Montana show with how she wanted to get her license, and show up at a party without her dad taking her.
5. There was once this movie (forgot it’s name) around the 1980′s-90′s about a boy who felt the need to drive, to prove himself to his friends and this girl. He drove like crazy!

So what do I do? How do I fix myself? I’m 17 btw living in NW Houston.
