Resolved Question: Should I learn Spanish and pretend I’m from Mexico so I can get care at the free clinic?
Whenever I walk into a free clinic (as in funded by my tax dollars) and fill out the form, I am refused. I make 32,000/year before taxes, live alone paying $1500/month rent, plus car payment, car insurance, utilities, student loans, food – usually i’m in the negative each month and ask my sister or mom for a little money. I don’t have a couple hundred leftover for health insurance, yet my income disqualifies me from getting either food stamps, medical or free clinic treatment, yet all the mexicans in the clinic who don’t speak a word of english and don’t pay taxes – they are 99% of those in the waiting room. Should I learn Spanish and pretend I’m from Mexico? I’m a bit desperate and willing to risk the consequences.
My work is in Beverly Hills – I’m a secretarial assistant who would not get paid as much if I moved. My housing is outside BH in a run down place so 1500 is on the low end – i don’t need people comparing it to a middle of nowhere neighborhood where the average income is 18,000. Why are people so unintelligent these days? And why does a married person deserve a tax credit when they already have 2 incomes supporting one household and I don’t? Yeah i am having a bad day/life.

I’m a black guy. I live in a predominately black area. Most of the crime in my area is black on black crime. So what’s so wrong about racial profiling?
If you look like a criminal, act like a criminal, talk like a criminal and listen to the same kinds of music popular with violent criminals why shouldn’t you be hassled by the cops until you prove to them that you are not a criminal?
I’ve heard all the arguments about racial profiling. And I have been involved in it myself as a citizen. In my vast experience, if you are driving a car that is registered to you, you have a valid driver’s license, and you carry proof of insurance, and you’re not under the influence, you won’t have a problem after being pulled over for a minor infraction. You get a ticket, you pay it, and that’s the end of it.
That’s just municipal revenue enhancement. It goes on everywhere. it’s part of the privilege of driving. Get used to it.
If however, you yell at the cop, can’t produce your documentation, have illegal substances or guns in your car, or are driving while under the influence, then you have a problem. But my point is that if you have any of these problems, you shouldn’t be driving…especially in a neighborhood where little kids are playing near or in the street.
In my opinion, Professor Henry Gates is a cantankerous old coot with a chip on his shoulder. And even though he acted in an unruly fashion when confronted by the police, because of who he was, he was released and the charges dropped.
Meanwhile, on the same day, a black family in Baltimore, MD was having a graduation party for their daughter. Some gang-bangers did a drive by shooting at the house where the party was being held.
In the Maryland case, the victims were black, witnesses said that the shooters were black. And the two-year-old who took a bullet in the head and died was black. Unfortunately, the latter experience is more in line with the typical black experience in America today, not the former. Gates claimed that police profiling was the most prevalent experience for blacks living in America. I say, he is wrong.
Had some police officer somewhere pulled that car over and did a search for weapons, an entire family would not be in mourning today. It makes little difference whether the drivers and passengers in a car are black, Mexican, white, or Arabic. If they look like they’re up to no good, then a policeman who is doing his job should want to see their documentation and do a search.
You people (liberals) who have never been the victim of a violent crime are unqualified to weigh in on this debate. But I ask you, if someone looks like a killer, acts like a killer, talks like a killer, dresses like a criminal, listens to the same music that is popular with gangbangers and thugs, why shouldn’t the police give him or her the third degree until they prove they engaged in criminal activity (yet)?
My question to you is, if you are a student, an athlete, or some other non-criminal category why would you work so hard to look like a criminal? And if you CHOOSE to look like a criminal, why shouldn’t you be hassled? Answer me that?
Until you’ve buried a loved one, or spent time in a hospital emergency room after having crossed paths with an actual criminal don’t cry to me about police profiling (racial or otherwise).
And don’t try to have this question removed again. It is not abusive, it is not in violation of the Yahoo community standards. It is something you should all be thinking about as the Obama economy gets worse and crime increases in your neck of the woods as a result.

The same cops were coming to my house and they didn’t want to come anymore. They even told me they didnt want to come to our house anymore. Finally I got a retraining order and served him by another police dept. My husband started coming around when I wasnt around and the cops came< the same cops and they told me to file a restraining order. In the heat of the mommnet I couldnt find it but they called it in and they said there was no such thing. I dont know if the other police dept has it in file, but shouldnt they all? SO they think I am wasting there time. I could understand. Well, the same cop that came to my house for those domestic desturbances, I see him around town and everytime he sees me he will try to make a u turn to go after me. I seen it happen twice. One time there was to much traffic and he coldnt get around it and another time I got to a store and got off and went inside. By the time I was out he was gone. He seen me yesterday and pulled me over. I asked him why was i pulled over and he said cause he knows I have a susspended license. It turns out that I had a ticket and didnt take care of it. But I was driving my dads car when he pulled me over, so if he ran the plates it would of not said anything about me. He asked me for the cars regristration , I called my dad and he and my sister came by and rung me everything I needed, but he said it was too late he was gonna impound my car for 1 day. He said I was lucky it was 1 day and not 30 days. So me and daughter pulled out our groceries and went into my sisters car. The other officer said to my sister that if I call the police station in about 3 hours, the car will ahve been processed and most likely they would give us a releaase today if I pay for it and the tow yard fee. Ok, so we called and sure enough the police officer said ok you can come by now. When we got there, the police officer behind the desk said it was gonna be held for 30 days, not 1 day so go home. I felt bad, cause Its my dads car. HOW CAN I COME UP WITH THE 30 DAYS OF IMPOUND FEES. I felt terrible. I didnt do this on purpose, I dont understand why the police officers told us to get it in 3 hours. I saked for the watch commander and they said i would wait about 1 hour. I waited about 20 minutes, then the same guy said I just found out we aren’t gonna have a watch commander today so you can come back tomarrow. When i got to my mom and dads house I was crying. My older brother came by and i told him what happened to me and he called to speak to a watch commander whom he knew and ask him in gerneral how the procedure is taken care of and the wierd thing is that he got transferred to the watch commander like in less then a minute. He was there but just didnt want to deal with it. My brother told him my situatuation and he said to my brother ok if the owner comes in right now with his insurance papers I will release the car to him. So my dad and brother haul ass to get there and the guy at the front desk said that the watch commander changed his mind and he decided to keep the car for 30 days after all. All my brother said was that they lied and corrupt. Whyw ould they be so cruel. My husband that I am legally still married to had no insurance, no tafgs, and a non piad ticket and when his car was tooken away from him they gave it back the next morning. Is it cause his skin color, I’m not one to use the race card. But I am mexican and my husband is white. Is it possible. Or is it I got a jerk cop trying to single me out. I dont know what to do.
