Resolved Question: Should I Get a Corolla or RAV4?
So, about a year ago, I got into a car accident, totaling my 4-month old Mazda3 (I was 17 at the time and not in the right state of mind to be behind a wheel).

After learning my lesson, I’ve been driving my family’s Jeep Liberty everywhere since then, adding about 20,000 miles to it this past year. I live near Berkeley and have driven as far as Southern California trough LA and its horrendous traffic.

Since the California State University system is in turmoil and it’s hard to find classes, I’ve made the decision to go a community college where we’ll save money, and it’s essentially the same struggle to get classes. This means after this semester, my family will have around an extra $28,000 to play around with, and they’re allowing me to get another car.

I’ve already decided on a Toyota since our 1989 Corolla is still running with 280,000 miles on it. The thing is, I’m not so sure about getting a sedan since the reason behind my accident is that I was blinded by the sun, and I wasn’t able to see far in front of me. That hasn’t been a problem with the Jeep since it’s higher off the ground.

I’ve weighed the options… Better fuel economy on the Corolla, but the RAV4 has more cargo room for road trips and such. I’ve come out of the accident a more cautious driver, but it’s still on my record, and insurance costs will be lower if we do end up getting a Corolla… But I just feel safer in an SUV.

Thoughts (pros and cons of each?) are appreciated.

Resolved Question: What letter grade would this paper get in wr 121?
Garrett Carter
Cause and Effect Paper
Lost in the World of Warcraft

There is a very dangerous abomination that threatens life as we know it. It is called the World of Warcraft (WoW). It is a video game that is so intriguing that one can become addicted to it. I did, and it had several horrible effects on me. When I was a sophomore I bought the game to have something to do with my free time. Some of my friends played it, and I got it to do something else fun with them. However, I ended up devoting my entire life to this drug. I spent up to 8 hours a day on it. Little did I know when I bought it that it would cost me my social life, my good reputation in school, my physical condition, and unspeakable amounts of time and money that could have been spent on something else. Of all the things that have happened to me throughout my life, WoW was among the worst.

The first effect of playing WoW was that it cost me my social life. I was cooped up in my room playing WoW from the time I got home from school until well after midnight. It was not uncommon for me to look at the window and notice that the sun was already up before I finally managed to pry myself off the computer and get some sleep. The only social interaction I had during that time was in the game with the people I played it with, and with my mom during that awful time every day when I had to leave the computer to get dinner. With all those hours I spent on the game I could have been outside socializing, but I just stayed inside on the computer staring at the screen for hours on end. I lived in constant fear of a power outage, the Internet going down, or people coming over to my house to try to convince me to go outside with them. I did not realize, until after I quit, how much of a loser and failure as a human I was when I was addicted to WoW. I was everybody’s hero in that game. Everybody in the game looked up to me and loved me. However, in real life, I was just some pathetic hermit who had lost almost all forms of communication with the people in the outside world. I know that in the little village of Klickitat there was not much going on outside but trouble and real drugs; however, at least it would have been with real people instead of video game characters.

The longest lasting effect that playing WoW had on me was that it caused me to lose my good reputation in school. In school, I was looked at as the “most likely to succeed” and “the teachers’ pet.” However, I became so enthralled into the game that I lost all interest in my school work. I was doing the bare minimum in each of my classes. This cost me my “A” in English, my 4.0 GPA, and brought my cumulative GPA from a 3.2 down to a 2.5. That low GPA cost me my entry position to many scholarships and other benefits like a lower car insurance payment. I was now looked upon as a “slacker” and a “loser.” Instead of paying attention in class I would discuss WoW with my friends, who also played it. I was more worried about what I was going to do in WoW that day than what the teacher was talking about. This got me in a lot of trouble when it came to tests and answering the teachers when they asked me a question. I could only to sit there while I tried to come up with some guess. I could only hope it had at least something to do with the question. However, my lame guesses were usually not even close to what the teachers asked, and succeeded in making me look like a complete idiot, more than just a few times.

The most noticeable effect that playing WoW had on me was my physical condition. Before I played WoW I weighed 140 pounds; the day I quit I was up to 165 pounds. And no, my friends, that was not muscle weight. I was starting to develop the “human inner tube.” That is what people on WoW refer to as the fat that accumulates around your mid section that resembles an inner tube. This was from prolonged hours of playing WoW and a strict diet of microwaved hot pockets, mountain dew, and greasy, fried deli foods. The many hours I spent slouched over a computer every day also destroyed my posture, which was already in bad shape. It took me a long time after WoW to get rid of my “hunch” that I had accumulated. Even today, I sometimes catch myself hunching again. My eyes were always bloodshot from staying up till morning, staring at the computer screen. I went to school every day looking like I smoked marijuana. I had bags under my bloodshot eyes, and I have no doubts that I could have passed off as being chronically ill.

I have played baseball all my life, and this is where WoW hindered my physical condition the greatest. I never played any sports besides baseball, so when spring came I usually took a while to get back into shape, but it was never more than a week. After I spent all off-season playing WoW, however, it was much worse. My knees gave out on me. They swelled up and were so hard to bend that I could hardly walk on them. They were so big that they were noticeable through jean
Never mind the format just the words. It got messed up when i pasted it into YA
Oh crap.. sorry it cut off half my paper…. nevermind i guess there is a limit on this.

Resolved Question: What is the large plastic piece under the car called?
Ok, please don’t judge, but I’m a total girl and know NOTHING about cars, lol. I have a 2006 Mazda 3i, and tonight I heard a scraping sound as I was driving. Got out, and noticed that a corner of that large plastic (I think it’s plastic?) piece under the front of the car is hanging down. I need to call the warranty company, and then the local garage, but I have no idea what that piece is called, and I don’t want to sound like a complete idiot on the phone! It is the piece that extends under the entire bottom front of the car, and it stops right where the front tires start. I thought I remembered it being called an engine guard, or something like that? But I really don’t know. I’m sure it happened yesterday, as I drove out to the country to visit family, and those roads are just killer on a low sitting car.

On another side note, would anyone happen to have an estimate of how much this is going to cost? I just bought the damed thing a week ago, and already have a 500$ insurance payment due on Friday! Thank you!
It either happened last night or today. I couldn’t hear it with the radio on, but when I turned the radio off I heard the scraping sound. I drove all day yesterday with the radio off, because my father was in the car. If it was dragging yesterday, I would of heard it.
