Open Question: license plate information needed?
Hey everyone I need some information if you can help me? I have a car that just got repoed and the insurance was current on it until then, my question is when the cars insurance runs out and that car is repoed do they charge you at the local DMV for turning in the license plate or what?
Open Question: Who is the rightful owner of my vehicle?
My boyfriend and I went to buy a new car and ended up getting two because of a major deal at the local dealership. An Acura for me and a Dodge for him. Well the dealership said they could not take his trade in vehicle on the Dodge they needed to put it on the Acura. Due to the Dodge was cheaper than the Acura. (Acura-$4,000 Dodge-$3,000) I did not find that fair! So now MY car is in his name and his is in my name. Everytime we fight he says he is taking the Acura. Due to its in his name, Technically I make the payments on the acura and he the dodge. I gave him the 1,100.00 which was the amount of the trade in vehicles worth. And I pay the insurance for BOTH vehicles…Who is the rightful owner of the Acura? I do not want to be with him anymore and want MY car (acura). I would have no problem taking the Dodge except the seat is so messed up I can’t reach the clutch.
Open Question: Child support / custody issues for a father.?
My boyfriend is an excellent father with two children. He is currently ordered to pay $495/month in child support to their mother. He has no problems about paying child support, but is not happy with the amount he pays. He totally agrees that he should pay support considering that their mother’s is their “primary residence” listed with the pediatrician, school, and carries insurance on them, etc. but he’s not sure how they come up with the amount. He has the kids 50-60% of the time (3-4 days a week) plus she regularly asks us to keep the kids extra days. The house they reside in with their mother, he paid off. She makes $20,000 more a year than he does. He buys all the school clothes, pictures, baseball uniforms, etc. He is just confused that if they reside with him 50% of the time, why he must pay so much? That would seem fair if he had them the typical “every other weekend” but that’s not the case. They were never married so I am aware that since there is no court custody established that there is nothing he can do. The local CSEA openly admitted that they don’t care if he has his kids 7 days a week or has never seen them, he has to pay. His children’s mother admitted that all of her utilities, car payment and insurance are covered by his child support and that all she has to pay is for groceries (which he does for her pretty often). There has to be a way to factor in all he does. We have spoken to 3 attorneys about fighting for split-parenting but BECAUSE he pay’s her $500/month we are unable to save up the $1500 retainer fee the attorney requires. The mother admitted that she’d lie and cheat if we took her to court and say he never has the kids and that she would refuse to let him keep them. And these custody issues can take several months. The thought of not having the kids for any period of time is unbearable. And before anyone jumps all over me about the whole child support thing, I am the mother of a 6 year old, I’ve only received $223 child support in his life time. So I’m a firm believer in child support and giving children and mothers what they are entitled to. But I’m also an advocate of fairness. Are there any resources or organization that can offer assistance with this type of issue based on income, or a sliding scale fee type scenario? We will never be able to afford a lawyer with what he has to pay her every month. Is there anything we can do? Financially he can’ afford to pay that much child support, but most imporantly, he wants legal rights and custody of his children.
I already checked with the legal aide organization in our area and they do not deal with custody issues. but thanks for the other great ideas. I’ve also checked with fellow social workers to see if they were aware of any type of assistance or way to bypass certain things, but no such luck as of yet.
Also, in a free consultation with one attorney, we were told that the reason she is so vehemently threatening us about taking her to court for shared parenting is because with her income, she would probably have to pay HIM child support, which he doesn’t want.
