Resolved Question: Insurance company giving me the run-around…what do I do?
I was recently in an accident. The driver of the car is not the owner; her sister owns the car and has a commercial insruance policy. Only the driver was on the police report. I don’t have the sister’s name. When I called to file the claim, I gave them the policy number, and they wanted me to verify the name of the company who has that policy. I don’t know that; they don’t put that on the crash report.
Now they say they can’t file a claim until I give them the name of the company the policy is under. I thought the policy number would be enough.
What do I do?
I know they can see it. They have it all right there in front of them. But they won’t let me open the claim unless I can verify the name of the company the owner works for (they are insuring the car; it’s a commercial policy)

As you may have already heard, I was in a car accident this morning on my way to work. I was driving southbound on I-295 in the middle lane when a commercial truck pulling a trailer began to move over on top of me. I honked, but he did not return to his lane, and in a panic, I turned my steering wheel to the right.
The next thing I knew I lost control of the car and I was flipped upside down two or three times and ended up face down in about a foot of muddy water.
Had the accident occurred 100 feet sooner or later, I could have ended up hitting a light pole or cement overpass. All things considered, I was extremely lucky – no other cars were involved, I didn’t hit anything or anyone, and most importantly, I was able to walk away completely unharmed.
It all happened so incredibly fast – I am just happy I was wearing my seat belt and that someone stopped soon enough to help me out of my car ( I was unable to open the door by myself, and I would have begun to panic had people not stopped).
Posted are some pictures of the aftermath – a truly tragic end for my 2005 Nissan Altima, whom Mr. Michael Sanok so lovingly named Carnitia. I am waiting to hear from my insurance company about the assessed damage, but after seeing it both upside down and flipped back over, there is no way the car isn’t totaled.
I also lost my iPhone to the ditch, but was able to recover it. Whether it dries out is left to be determined.
To all of you who sent texts and tweets to Chad and I, thank you for your concern. It means a lot to have friends who care about you when you’re left with your world turned (literally) upside down.
