Open Question: For whatever reason, do you feel like you can’t let go of bad periods from your life?
I was sued for half a million dollars from 1993-2000, and even though I was found not liable, I can’t let what happened to me go. It was over a car accident that I was accused of causing, which really wasn’t entirely my fault. Even though I had insurance, I constantly feared losing everything that I ever owned, and there were days in which I truly did not want to live due to the depression and anxiety that resulted from the stress of living with the lawsuit for seven years of my life, from the age of 18 until 25. There were days in which I sobbed uncontrollably due to the depression. My young adulthood was miserable because of this. But even after I was declared in favor of by a jury (which only meant that I didn’t have to pay anything because I didn’t cause the accident), the feelings of depression and anxiety still lingered for years.

Now, at 34, I still find it difficult to put it out of my mind. I know that people who go off to war often suffer from post tramatic stress disorder, and I’m not saying what I went though would even be close. Yet, I just can’t stop from thinking about it – - it’s like I’m torturing myself over this stupid thing that has been over for years, and I don’t know why. It’s not like I think about it everyday, but when I do reflect upon those years, it brings back many of the depressing feelings that I felt. During those seven years, there wasn’t a week that would go by that I worry about it. I’d cry myself to sleep sometimes. My God, it was aweful.

My vehicle wasn’t even hit.

Anyhow, now whenever I am under any moderate amounts of negative stress, I experience similar feelings of depression and hopelessness that I used to feel during that period of my life.

Resolved Question: Being Sued For Car Accident need help?
I wan in a car accident over a year ago in CA where I was at fault. Traffic came to a sudden stop as there was a bad accident in front of me on the freeway. I was unable to stop in time and rear ended the car in front of me. I exchange insurance info with the other driver and we were both able to drive away from the accident.

I thought my insurance had handled this and everything was resolved, however I just received a court summons saying I am being sued in amounts exceeding $25,000 for personal injury, pain and suffering endured by other driver.

I am planning to call my insurance company asap, but I wanted to know how serious this is because I am starting to panic. I am insured under my parents so they are the ones being sued, and I don’t want this to affect them in any way. I am hoping the insurance company will handle this, but I am not sure what to expect. Any help is greatly appreciated.
