Open Question: I have a question regarding car insurance and my 17-year-old son driving under a learner’s permit with parent?
We live in the state of Alabama, and I have full coverage insurance on my car. My son, who lives with me, has a learner’s permit, but not his license, and only drives on occasion, always with me (his mother) in the car. Do I need to notify my insurance company that he is driving with me under a learner’s permit so that he will be listed as a “driver” on my policy (even though he does not have his official license as yet)? Or do I notify my insurance company only once he actually has his drivers license?

I am at college in Alabama and I am from Washington. I was wondering if I bought a car in Alabama if it would be covered by my parents insurance in Washington since I do not have Alabama residency? So I just moved back home to PA after living in Alabama for almost 2 years ….. long story short I ended up super broke down there because it’s such a poor state lol. I ended up having to let my insurance policy expire. I’m trying to get everything back in order, but can only afford to get one thing done at a time. If I get my car inspected, will they ask for proof of insurance? Will I get in trouble?
I understand having insurance would solve my problem …. but I am absolutely BROKE and cannot afford to get insurance til next month.
