Resolved Question: Can a person live on $1,200 a month?
I’m a junior (well almost) in college and I work part-time. Obviously, being a full-time sudent, I can’t work full-time and stay sane at the same time. So my average monthly pay is around $1,200. My parents (and the tons of other people who are always at their house) drive me crazy with all the noise they make, and my grades are suffering because of it. The 2 days I do have to catch up on homework each week, I can’t because there are always people at my house, and I’m not a library person. I like to be comfortable when I study.
So, my question is would it be possible to live by myself (no roommate), cover all expenses, and not have to live paycheck to paycheck?
Note: I live in Alabama. I don’t have a car payment, it’s paid off. My car insurance runs about $50 per month, my cell phone bill is about $80 per month, I have over $16,000 in the bank right now, but I’ve never really had to buy groceries, pay electric bills, water bills, or rent, so I don’t know about how much those would cost.
And if you live in an apartment and don’t mind telling, how much are your monthly expenses compared with your monthly salary?
I really don’t wanna live in a dorm, and my parents would not be able to help me financially if I moved out on my own. Their income is already stretched enough by them supporting my 40-year-old sister and her 2 kids.

My brother was in a car wreck few years back and he has a few Verdi brae’s that is crushing against each other and he is always in sever pain. he lost his career of heating & air and his ins as well. then lost his home and everything in it because no one would hire him because of being a ins. liability to them. he was put on loratabs and methadone but then his doctor took him off methadone because he could not prescribe them because he’s not a pain management doctor. so now he’s having a hard time seeing a doctor unless he has lots of money. my brother lives in a camper we gave him and can’t walk. he needs help fast. he is having withdrawals from methadone and has said he can’t live through it any longer. I’m scared if he doesn’t get help he will end all his pain. We need some kind of insurance so he can have back surgery and have meds that will help ease his pain.

Who do you have, and would you recommend them. I’m in the state of Alabama and about to get my first car. It will not be an 08 or 09, but an 06 or 07 (hopefully). I’m have poor credit, but flawless driving record. I’m 22 and female.
Also, can I get insurance the same day? Or does it have to begin so many days later?
